Senior College Application Mentoring

New Haven REACH provides one-on-one mentoring to local New Haven public school seniors throughout their college applications. That means supporting our mentees through any and every part of the process, including creating an individualized college list to fit the students' goals and needs, brainstorming and editing essays, finding and applying to scholarships, and more. In addition to private mentoring sessions, REACH provides resources and workshops for mentees throughout the year. Our college mentoring program typically runs from September through May for high school seniors. As of right now, REACH is operating remotely.

Junior Mentoring

2021 was REACH's first year extending its programming to New Haven high school juniors. We start working with these students in the spring of their junior year when the senior cycle comes to a slow in February or March. While juniors are assigned one-on-one mentors, the bulk of their time is spent in program-wide workshops that introduce them to various parts of the college process, including workshops on making a college list, the Common Application, essay writing, interviews and financial aid.

Summer Mentoring

Mentees can also choose to meet with a mentor over the summer between their junior and senior years, on a weekly or biweekly basis, on any elements of the process they want to focus on individually with their mentor.
